Mobile Applications Privacy Policy
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how the mobile applications provided by Malouf (“Malouf,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handle information. It applies to all Malouf-branded mobile applications distributed through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, including the Malouf Base app used to operate Malouf adjustable bed bases.
Summary: Our apps do not require an account and do not collect contact information, marketing data, or location for tracking. The only information collected is limited diagnostic and crash data, gathered through a third-party crash-reporting service (Sentry), which we use solely to detect and fix problems and improve app stability. We do not use app data for advertising, and we do not sell it. Details, including our data retention and deletion practices, are below.
2. Information We Collect
App functionality (not collected by Malouf). The Malouf Base app communicates directly with your adjustable bed base on your own device using a local Bluetooth® connection. Commands you give in the app (such as raising or lowering the base) are sent directly from your device to the base. This information is not sent to Malouf, is not stored on our servers, and is not shared with any third party.
Crash and diagnostic data. Our apps use Sentry, a third-party crash- and error-reporting service, to help us identify and fix bugs. When the app encounters an error or crash, Sentry collects diagnostic information about the event and the device, such as the device manufacturer and model, operating system version, app version, hardware characteristics (for example, memory size, screen dimensions, and CPU architecture), and the sequence of events leading up to the error. Our Sentry configuration does not capture IP addresses, and our apps do not require an account, so this information is not used to identify you personally. It is used only to diagnose and resolve technical issues and to improve app stability; it is not used for advertising or marketing, and we do not sell it.
3. Device Permissions
To connect to your bed base over Bluetooth, the app may request the following device permissions. These permissions are used solely to enable the local Bluetooth connection and are not used to track you or to collect data for Malouf or any third party:
- Bluetooth / Nearby devices: Used to discover and connect to your Malouf adjustable base.
- Location (older Android versions only): Apps that support Android versions earlier than 12 must request the location permission because, on those versions, the Android operating system requires it before an app can scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. Where requested, this permission is used only to enable Bluetooth scanning to find your base; the app does not determine, use, collect, or transmit your geographic location. Apps that target Android 12 and later use the “neverForLocation” Bluetooth-scanning flag and do not request the location permission.
You can review or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Revoking Bluetooth permission will prevent the app from connecting to your base.
4. Data Retention
We retain crash and diagnostic data only for as long as needed to diagnose and fix technical issues. This data is stored by our crash-reporting provider (Sentry) and is automatically deleted after 90 days.
Any app preferences or settings you configure (for example, saved positions or display preferences) are stored only locally on your own device. We do not have access to this on-device information, and it is never transmitted to Malouf.
5. Data Deletion
You remain in control of your information:
- Locally stored app settings can be cleared at any time through your device’s app settings (“Clear storage” / “Clear data” on Android, or by offloading/deleting the app on iOS), and are permanently removed when you uninstall the app.
- To request deletion of any crash or diagnostic data associated with you, email devs@maloufsvs.com. We will work with our crash-reporting provider to delete the relevant data and will respond to verifiable requests within 30 days.
Note on accounts: Our current mobile apps do not offer account creation. If a Malouf mobile app ever allows users to create an account, that app will provide an in-app method to request deletion of the account and its associated data, as required by Google Play and the Apple App Store.
6. Third-Party Services
We use Sentry (operated by Functional Software, Inc., dba Sentry) for crash and error reporting. Sentry processes the diagnostic data described in Section 2 on our behalf and is contractually limited to using it to provide that service to us; it does not use it to train general-purpose AI models or for its own marketing. Our apps do not include advertising, marketing-analytics, social-media, or account-login SDKs, and we do not share user data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our mobile apps are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The limited crash and diagnostic data we collect is used only for technical troubleshooting. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data Security
Diagnostic data is transmitted to our crash-reporting provider over encrypted connections and stored subject to that provider’s security controls. The data is limited to device and crash diagnostics and does not include IP addresses or account information. Communication between the app and your bed base occurs locally on your device. We do not maintain user accounts or store personal contact information from the apps.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” above and post the updated policy at its published URL. Material changes will be reflected in the version available through the app stores.
